Customer testimonial

I had an ingrown toe nail for 20 years. 6 months ago I had nail surgery at Advanced Podiatry and I have had no pain or problem with it since. I wish I had it done earlier.

Some of the common questions for this treatment
Call us at (03) 9882 7221 or email us if you couldn't find an answer to your questions here
  • How does this treatment work?
  • Nail surgery is simple and quick with a painless recovery. A local anaesthetic is used to numb the toe and the edge of the nail is painlessly removed. The skin is not cut and there are no stitches as we work within the nail itself. The nail root is treated with phenol so the removed nail edge will not grow back. Typically there is minimal or no pain and bleeding afterwards. A small dressing is applied and normally you don’t have to wear accommodating footwear.
  • Does it hurt?
  • No it doesn't hurt. A local anaesthetic is used to eliminate pain during the procedure.
  • Do I need to have nail surgery?
  • Not always. Treatment will depend on the cause and can range from gentle removal of a painful nail spike to filing and clearing of the nail edge. Nail surgery is only performed where permanent correction of the nail is needed by reducing its overall width.
  • Can I drive home after the surgery?
  • There may still be some numbness from the anaesthetic after the procedure and it is recommended that you do not drive home. It is best to be dropped off at the clinic and picked up afterwards.
